The Greenway Bridge was renamed The Canary Bridge on V.E. Day 2020.

In 2018. I was awarded a residency at Warehouse 701 in Hereford, a former Munitions Factory.

To get there I cycled over the Greenway Bridge many times & day dreamed that I was off to work - just like them.

I never called it the Greenway Bridge. It was always the Canary Bridge.

The bridge followed the route of an old cycle path that the Canary Girls would have cycled in all weathers.

My good friend Julie Orton Davies, who is part of 'Rotherwas Together', basked in the knowledge that we had helped to honour the work that these amazing women had done for us during 2 World Wars by renaming the bridge.

I still cycle over The Canary Bridge regularly and have a huge sense of pride in the knowledge that we helped rewrite history and recognise and honour our female ancestors.

It is and has great memories for me and many Herefordians.
